No takebacks on the Internet

Liberal blogger "The Liberal Bag" posted a blog on Wednesday about a personal experience in the Montreal riding of Westmont-Ville Marie, where the Dion appointed candidate Marc Garneau is supposed to win an easy victory.

Apparently Dionistas don't take well to criticism. After doing a virtual dance all over the Liberal Bag, he removed the post and posted an apology.

Thanks to Google cache (and Stephen Taylor), you can read the offending post for yourself.
What the hell are we doing in Westmount-Ville Marie?

So while the Liberal campaign in W-VM is seemingly stagnant for possibly a whole week in a critical riding we must hold, an enthusiastic NDP campaign is, at the very least, not literally turning away volunteers who show up already wearing party buttons, and at the most is knocking on doors with a strong team. While up in Guelph, whenever the topic of Westmount-Ville Marie came up, any comparisons to Outremont were largely dismissed, with the consensus being the riding was simply too Liberals to fall, and while the NDP would finish second, it would be a distant second. I included myself in the category of people who said this, but after my day in Westmount-Ville Marie, I am definitely no longer sure. This should be a wake-up call.

Perception trumps reality in today's Liberal Party of Canada. Truth must be rudely stamped out in favour of the greater goal of winning, regardless of the cost.

Kinda makes you wonder about the whole Green Shaft thing.

The Liberal Bag was probably trying to do the party a favour by pointing out this obvious problem.

Maybe a private conversation or email would have been better though, from a strategic POV.

You don't advertise your party's shortcomings. Plenty of others are happy to do that for you.

On the other hand, it really depends on your role as a blogger. Are you foremost a citizen journalist or a tool of the party?

I think this is a conflict that many political bloggers face.

Jeff,

Have you got your lifevest strapped on yet?

Because after the SS Librano breaks in two and sinks to the bottom of the internal power struggle abyss because it's captain ran full Green Shaft ahead even if it could not stir a single wave in Taxpayer Ocean thus failed to see the Conservative iceberg ahead (Lesson: AGW is a sham, North Pole still frozen and producing plenty of ice), you will need that flotation device.

A lifeboat is recommended but it's usually women and children first; although on the SS Librano it might be elites entitled to their entitlements first.

So, good luck and bon election voyage!

And Celine will sing: "My debt
will go on"

So, Jeff, telling the truth is a rookie mistake? I guess that means we shouldn't believe a word any experienced Liberal says. Some of us had already figured that out.

It's pretty hard to run a campaign when you're broke. Even harder when your only policy is increased taxes. Harder still when your leader is a complete idiot.

Good points Joanne. I've already received a couple of emails regarding some of my earlier posts. While you can risk being branded a troublemaker for blogging about some things, it's a personal decision. Sometimes things need to be aired.
