Guelph Chamber of Commerce By-Election Survey

From the Chamber of Commerce website:

Candidates from the four major parties in the 2008 Federal Bi-Election that received more than 5% of the votes cast in Guelph-Wellington in the previous election were asked a series of questions by members of the Guelph Chamber of Commerce. The questions and their responses are listed below.

Gloria Kovach

Frank Valeriote, Tom King and Mike Nagy seem to be missing in action so far. Clicking their links leads to "No response has been received to date".

Frank Valeriote looks to become the next Member of Parliament for Guelph, based on the most recent polls completed by KlrVu Research. Over thirty six percent of voters have indicated their support for the Liberal candidate, and he retains a 10-percentage point lead over nearest competitor Gloria Kovach of the Conservatives who has 26.35% of the voters polled.

If you want to believe a robo-dial poll, feel free. I loved this line in the release

"This poll was completed in two rounds on July 27th and August 13th,
sampling over 3396 random residents of the Guelph constituency representing
nearly nine percent of all households with a 95% confidence level and a margin
of error of 2%."

Two polling dates, one two days after the election was called and another 16 days later and then mix the results together? I love it.

3396, or almost 9% of households is substantial. You only have to poll about 1200 to get an accurate result for the whole country. So methodology be damned... that is a massive sample.

What if the poll had the CPC in the lead? How would you feel about the poll methodology then?

Exactly the same. Polling on two seperate dates so wide apart destroys the accuracy as far as I'm concerned. I don't have any stats at my fingertips, but robo-dials are not known for the accuracy either. Were the poll questions rotated or was one person in the first position every time.

September 8th...the only poll that counts

I'm starting to get the feeling that Liberals post here because they can't get any traffic on their own sites.

And what data did you use to come to that conclusion, BlueBoy? Right. As I thought. More sheer, naked speculation based on nothing more that passing thoughts bouncing around in your head.

Carry on.
